Cutting out alcohol and why it's good for you.

It’s a brave decision to cut alcohol out of your life. You might think that you’ll miss it, but we’re here to prove that cutting out the booze can be just as fun, if not more fun! And it’s definitely better for your health.

Goodbye hangover!

First of all, no hangovers! One of the most obvious benefits of abstaining from alcohol. Goodbye headaches, fatigue, and other nasty symptoms that follow a night of drinking. And instead of drinking more to ease the pain (which never really solves anything), you can wake up in the morning with enough energy to hit the gym or go for a run.

What about drinking in moderation?

There’s also been plenty of research that shows the health benefits of drinking alcohol in moderation, but there’s no such thing as drink-free moderation - so why not just skip it altogether?

How will I feel?

Alcohol helps us relax in the moment but leads to anxiety later on. Cutting alcohol out can reduce your risk of developing serious illnesses, strengthen your body's defence system, help you maintain a healthy weight, improved sleep and can help achieve a clearer and more focussed mind. Plus, non-alcoholic options are becoming increasingly popular and widely available. At the end of the day, moderation or no moderation, it’s what works best for you personally.

Are non-alcoholic spirits and aperitifs any good?

There are now a huge variety of non-alcoholic spirits and wonderful new-style aperitifs. One example is Wilfred’s Non-Alcoholic Aperitif, which is made from natural botanicals of rosemary and bitter, and carefully crafted for the perfect bittersweet balanced spritz. On top of that, these drinks are remarkably similar to alcoholic equivalents, (sometimes better!) so you won’t feel like you’re missing out!

Non-alcoholic options have come a long way in the last few years and you can find all the complexity of alcoholic drinks in many NA alternatives. We recommend Wilfred’s but there are plenty of options out there!

Where do I start?

Ditching the booze doesn't have to mean missing out on socialising or having fun - as seen above there are still plenty of options out there. Why not try quitting booze for one month over Dry January or Sober October and see how it makes you feel. With non-alcoholic drinks that taste great and help keep you healthy, plus a whole host of physical and mental benefits, what have you got to lose?
